We're looking for a friendly, reliable, and detail-oriented Full-Time Sales Associate to join our team and help create an exceptional experience for every customer who walks through our doors.
What You'll Do :
Customer Service
- Greet and assist customers in a welcoming and professional manner
- Answer questions about products, ingredients, cooking, baking, and specialty foods
- Help customers navigate our bulk food system and make recommendations
- Process transactions accurately through our point-of-sale system
- Maintain a positive shopping experience for all customers
Product Knowledge & Sales
- Learn and maintain knowledge of our bulk foods, herbs, spices, teas, baking ingredients, nuts, seeds, snacks, and specialty products
- Assist customers with ingredient substitutions and product suggestions
- Support in-store promotions and merchandising initiatives
- Restock shelves, bins, and displays throughout the day
Inventory & Store Operations
- Receive and organize deliveries
- Refill bulk bins following proper rotation procedures
- Monitor product quality, freshness, and inventory levels
- Assist with inventory counts and stock management
- Label products and maintain accurate pricing and signage
Cleaning & Food Safety
- Follow food handling and sanitation procedures
- Maintain cleanliness of bins, scoops, shelving, and work areas
- Assist with regular store cleaning and maintenance tasks
- Ensure the store remains organized, safe, and presentable
Sustainability & Community
- Support and promote environmentally responsible practices
- Encourage reusable container programs and waste reduction initiatives
- Represent the values and mission of The Main Ingredient in daily interactions
What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications
- Previous experience in a retail environment
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and confidently when scheduled alone
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with food, grocery, bulk foods, specialty foods, or hospitality
- Knowledge of cooking, baking, herbs, spices, teas, and ingredients
- Passion for sustainability, local food systems, and environmental responsibility
- Experience with inventory management or receiving shipments
Schedule & Availability
- Full-time position
- Must be available for a combination of weekdays and Saturdays (every other)
- Occasional flexibility for special events, workshops, and seasonal busy periods
