Job Summary
We are a well-established heavy construction company specializing in paving, base work, and crushing operations. We are looking for an experienced and driven Safety Coordinator to join our team. This is a road and office hybrid position that requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
What Does Your Day Look Like?
- Be a visible, hands-on safety presence in the field, shop, and office
- Promote and demonstrate a strong safety-first attitude aligned with company policies
- Work closely with crews, truck drivers, mechanics, and supervisors to support safe operations
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and informal safety coaching
- Lead and support safety meetings, orientations, and toolbox talks
- Participate in pre job planning, hazard assessments, and job hazard analyses
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazards, and help implement solutions
- Support ongoing improvement of safe work practices
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Program Implementation
- Support and continuously improve the company's OH&S program across crushing, paving, hauling, and shop operations
- Provide practical coaching and guidance to employees and supervisors
- Assist Joint Health & Safety Committee activities and initiatives
- Help foster a positive, team-oriented safety culture
Incident Management & Investigations
- Encourage reporting of hazards, near misses, and incidents
- Assist with investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Ensure timely response and follow-up incidents
- Track and communicate safety trends and improvements
Documentation, Compliance & Auditing
- Maintain and update safety documentation (JHAs, safe work procedures, safety manuals)
- Assist with COR audits and ensure compliance with Saskatchewan OH&S regulations
- Track corrective actions and ensure completion
- Maintain records for inspections, equipment, and training
Field, Shop & Fleet Support
- Spend regular time in the field, gravel pits, paving operations, and shop
- Work with drivers to support safe hauling practices and compliance
- Assist with contractor safety requirements and onboarding
- Support safe maintenance practices with mechanics and shop staff
General Duties
- Assist with WCB claims and return-to-work coordination
- Support onboarding, training, and employee safety orientation
- Maintain accurate and confidential records
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
- 2-3+ years of health & safety experience, preferably in construction, road building, or transportation
- Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent experience
- NCSO designation (or working toward) is an asset
- Experience with COR audits and safety program implementation
- Working knowledge of Saskatchewan OH&S legislation and standards
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driver's abstract
