Carpenter Apprentice (2nd–4th Period) — $25–$30/hr | Year-Round Hours Toward Your Ticket.
At Local Handyman Lethbridge, we believe homeowners deserve more than just repairs — they deserve professionalism, respect, and high-quality craftsmanship. And we believe a serious apprentice deserves a serious apprenticeship: real wages, real variety, and hours that don’t stop when the weather does.
If you’re two or three periods into your ticket and you’ve spent them framing the same wall on a production crew, getting laid off every time the season turns, or logging hours in one narrow corner of the trade — this role was built for you.
This is a full-time employee position with steady, year-round work — and a wage band that respects how far you’ve already come. Your hours don’t stop in November, which means your path to your Alberta carpentry ticket and Red Seal doesn’t either. And you’ll log those hours working directly under our senior Lead Technician — real mentorship, on real projects, every day.
What You’ll Do (Apprentice Role)
On a production crew you’d build the same thing a hundred times. Here, your logged hours cover the full range of the trade:
- Framing — walls, roofs, door and window openings, gazebos, pergolas, vaulted ceilings
- Finishing carpentry — trim, doors, and custom work
- Decks and fencing
- Flooring installation
- Bathroom, kitchen, and basement renovations
- Both residential and commercial projects
- Working side-by-side with our Lead Technician — a senior tradesperson whose job includes teaching you
- Seeing projects through from layout to final walkthrough — not just one repeated task
What Success Looks Like
Our ideal apprentice is:
- Already skilled — you’re not starting out, you’re levelling up
- Hungry to master every side of the trade, not just the fast parts
- Able to take direction, act decisively, and see tasks through
- Proud of quality work and attention to detail
- Professional and respectful in customers’ occupied homes
You bring real skills and the drive to finish your ticket — we provide the variety, the mentorship, the van, and the support.
What We’re Looking For
- Registered Alberta carpentry apprentice — 2nd period or higher (3rd and 4th period strongly encouraged to apply; the top of our band is built for you)
- 3+ years of hands-on carpentry or framing experience
- Solid fundamentals you can prove on site: measuring, layout, cutting, framing, and safe tool handling
- A customer-friendly, professional demeanor
- Reliability, punctuality, and pride in workmanship
Requirements
- Valid driver’s licence with a clean abstract (you’ll be driving a company van)
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada
- Ability to lift, climb, and perform physical work safely
- Comfort working in occupied residential homes
- Basic tool set and willingness to grow your skills
Why Finish Your Apprenticeship Here?
- $25–$30 per hour based on apprenticeship period and skill — top of band for 4th period
- Year-round hours — no seasonal layoffs means your apprenticeship hours accumulate faster than on a seasonal crew
- The full trade, not one slice of it — framing, finishing, decks, renos: the variety that makes you a complete carpenter
- Daily mentorship from a senior Lead Technician — not an apprentice babysitting an apprentice
- Company van and equipment provided
- Dental care, extended health care, and vision care
- Daytime hours — no nights, no camp work
- A visible ladder: apprentice → journeyman → lead — our lead role pays $32–40/hr, and we’d rather promote you into it than hire a stranger
