Organization: Habitat for Humanity Mid-Vancouver Island - Duncan ReStore
Location: 251 Government Street, Duncan, BC (with frequent travel throughout the region as needed)
Hours: 10-20 hours per week
Wage: $20.00/hour
Position Summary
The ReStore Associate supports the daily operations of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore by providing excellent customer service, processing donations, assisting with merchandise, and safely completing furniture donation pickups and deliveries. This role requires frequent heavy lifting, driving, and entering donors' homes to assess and collect donated furniture and household items while representing Habitat for Humanity Mid-Vancouver Island in a professional and respectful manner.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
· Provide friendly, professional service to customers, donors, volunteers, and community members.
· Operate POS system and process transactions.
· Answer questions and assist customers with locating merchandise within the ReStore.
· Promote Habitat for Humanity’s mission through positive interactions.
Donation Pickups and Deliveries
· Safely drive Habitat for Humanity vehicles to complete scheduled furniture donation pickups and deliveries.
· Must be able to drive between Nanaimo and Victoria (as required).
· Enter donors’ homes respectfully and professionally to collect approved furniture and household donations.
· Assess donated items to ensure they meet ReStore acceptance guidelines.
· Load, unload, and secure furniture and other donated items for safe transportation.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work vehicle.
Retail Operations
· Receive, inspect, clean, price, and prepare donated merchandise for sale.
· Move, organize, and display furniture throughout the store.
· Assist with inventory organization and stock rotation.
· Maintain a clean, safe, and organized sales floor.
· Follow all workplace health and safety procedures.
Teamwork
· Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community service workers.
· Assist with store opening, closing, and other operational duties as required.
· Perform additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 lbs (20kg) independently and heavier items with team assistance or appropriate equipment.
· Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, reaching, and standing for extended periods.
· Ability to move large furniture and appliances.
· Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions during donation pickups.
Qualifications
· Valid Class 5 driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
· Experience driving cargo vans, cube vans, or pickup trucks.
· Strong customer service and communication skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Reliable, dependable, and safety conscious.
· Previous retail, warehouse, moving, delivery, or customer service experience is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
· Combination of retail and off-site work.
· Regular travel within the community to complete donation pickups.
· Frequent interaction with donors in residential settings.
· Moderate to heavy physical labour performed throughout the workday.
· Weekend and occasional evening work may be required.
