SMS Security is a growing security services company headquartered in Toronto, proudly serving multi-residential condominium communities across the Greater Toronto Area. We provide guard services, installation and servicing of security systems, mobile patrol, and parking enforcement—and we’re scaling fast. We’re looking for a senior technician to complement our sharp, proactive executive assistant to help power our leadership team.
The Role
As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a skilled Door Operator Technician to join our service team. This role is ideal for someone with experience installing and servicing automatic door operators, door hardware, electronic locking systems, and low-voltage security devices. Key Responsibilities
Automatic Door Operators & Door Automation (Primary Focus)
- Install, service, and troubleshoot automatic door operators, maglocks, electric strikes, and exit devices
- Integrate door systems with alarms and access control systems
- Diagnose issues related to door automation, locking hardware, and low-voltage controls
- Perform light mechanical adjustments such as lock alignment, minor door issues, and hardware tuning
Electronic Locking & Access Control
- Install and service: Maglocks, Electric strikes, Request-to-Exit (REX) devices, Door contacts, Push-to-exit buttons
- Integrate door hardware with access control and security systems.
- Troubleshoot low-voltage wiring and electronic locking devices.
Service & Customer Support
- Respond to scheduled service calls and emergency repairs.
- Diagnose issues and recommend practical repair solutions.
- Complete service reports, work orders, and documentation accurately.
- Maintain excellent customer relationships through professional communication.
- Educate customers on proper operation and maintenance of installed systems.
Qualifications Required
- 2–3 years of experience installing and servicing commercial door operators, door hardware, or electronic door systems.
- Experience with: Automatic door operators, Maglocks, Electric strikes, Exit devices, Commercial door hardware
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of low-voltage wiring and electrical components.
- Proficient using hand and power tools.
- Ability to work independently and manage field service calls.
- Comfortable working indoors, outdoors, and at construction or occupied sites.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work safely on ladders and elevated work platforms.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver's licence with a clean driving record.
Preferred:
Experience with any of the following:
- Dormakaba, ASSA ABLOY, BEA, NABCO, Stanley, Horton, Record, Besam, or similar automatic door systems
- Salto electronic locking systems
- Kantech, Keyscan, Avigilon, or other access control platforms
- IP networking fundamentals
- CCTV and intercom systems
- Conduit installation and cable routing

Pay: $23.00-$32.00 per hour
