General Building Maintenance worker (part-time)

HI-Tofino Hostel - Whalers Guesthouse is hiring a General Building Maintenance worker to join our family-like team. If you love hands-on work and getting things done, and thrive in a supportive, fun, and nature-loving environment, all the while maintaining a healthy work-life balance this could be your dream role! This is a part-time position and staff accommodation can be provided.
What You Will Be Doing
You will be doing in a variety of tasks to keep our hostel running smoothly, including:

Daily Groundskeeping & Landscaping: Keeping our property tidy and beautiful (e.g. clearing of eves troughs, sweeping hostel grounds, weeding, etc.).

Facility Maintenance: Painting, drywalling, cleaning, and tackling repairs in guestrooms, bathrooms, hallways, and common areas.

Preventative Maintenance: Performing regular preventative maintenance in line with our daily/weekly/monthly maintenance schedules.

Plumbing: Troubleshooting and resolving plumbing issues.

Sewer Lift Station: Maintaining and troubleshooting pumps and related component care. Experience is an asset, but training is provided.

Specialized Maintenance: e.g. carpentry, tiling, equipment repair, HVAC, electrical work and more - Experience is an asset!

Contractors: Arranging and coordinating the work of contractors and repair services.

Bike Maintenance: Tuning up our rental bike fleet.

Team Support on busy days: Support with housekeeping during busy days and other duties as needed.
What We Are Looking For

Previous hands-on maintenance or renovation experience (think: the wide range of skills involved in flipping a house).

Confident and safe operation of power tools and equipment.

Solid basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry.

Great attention to detail with a practical, can-do approach to tasks.

Good mechanical aptitude and comfort troubleshooting a variety of issues.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

A reliable team player who can also work independently with minimal supervision

Ability to take initiative and make productive use of downtime
