We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and collaborative Bilingual Payroll Specialist to join our client’s Human Resources Operations team on a 12-month contract. This role is ideal for a payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and is passionate about delivering accurate, compliant, and timely payroll services. Supporting a large and diverse employee population across North America, the Payroll Specialist will play a key role in payroll processing, regulatory compliance, issue resolution, and continuous process improvement while contributing to a high-performing and inclusive workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Process payroll accurately and efficiently for a large, multi-jurisdictional employee population across multiple pay groups in North America.
- Review payroll transactions for completeness, accuracy, and reasonableness, ensuring all payroll inputs are processed in accordance with company policies and legislative requirements.
- Interpret and apply payroll legislation, tax laws, and government regulations related to payroll deductions, benefits, incentive compensation, and retirement programs.
- Investigate, analyze, and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Prepare and process special payments, complex earnings calculations, retroactive adjustments, and payroll deductions as required.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of payroll remittances, statutory filings, year-end activities, and other payroll compliance requirements.
- Support payroll-related internal controls, SOX compliance activities, and internal and external audit processes to ensure adherence to established procedures and regulatory standards.
- Respond to information requests and provide payroll expertise to support business initiatives, organizational changes, and the integration of newly acquired employees or operations.
- Monitor changes in payroll legislation and regulatory requirements, proactively assessing impacts and recommending necessary process updates.
- Identify recurring issues, trends, and opportunities for process improvement, recommending and implementing enhancements to improve payroll efficiency, accuracy, and service delivery.
- Collaborate effectively with Human Resources, Finance, and other internal stakeholders to ensure seamless payroll operations and a positive employee experience.
The ideal candidate will hold post secondary education in business administration, with a payroll certification (PCP) considered a strong asset. You will bring a minimum of 2-4 years of Canadian payroll experience, including at least two years supporting payroll operations within a similarly large and complex organization. Experience processing multi-jurisdictional payroll, for 500+ employees will be needed. You possess exceptional organizational skills and are comfortable managing multiple payrolls and competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment. A highly analytical and detail-oriented professional, you demonstrate sound judgment, strong problem-solving abilities, and a continuous improvement mindset. You are adaptable, collaborative, and capable of building strong working relationships across all levels of the organization while maintaining the highest degree of confidentiality. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Experience with HRIS/payroll systems, particularly UKG/Ultipro, is considered an asset.
