Raise is currently hiring a Generation Station Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.
Description
The Generation Station Engineer specializing in Protection & Control (P&C) Design, in this role will be responsible for delivering comprehensive engineering design solutions for assigned Plant Lifecycle Maintenance (PCM) projects across multiple generation stations. Working within a collaborative team environment, you will prepare signed and sealed design packages, provide site support, and ensure that all station equipment and auxiliary systems operate safely, reliably, and in full compliance with our client and EGBC standards.
Responsibilities

Protection & Control Design: Prepare detailed P&C engineering design packages for generating units, associated auxiliary equipment, and station systems operating from 12 kV up to 500 kV.

Design Package Creation: Develop complete construction packages including equipment layouts, single-line diagrams, AC/DC schematic diagrams, cable schedules, wiring diagrams, material lists, and external connections ready for issue and archiving.

Professional Sign-Off: Act as the Professional of Record (PoR) to issue signed and sealed engineering deliverables in accordance with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) standards and Engineering Design Practices.

Project Documentation: Author comprehensive project deliverables including design bases, technical specifications, evaluation reports, risk/hazard logs, estimates, proposals, and calculations.

Field Support & Quality Assurance: Provide technical guidance and construction support in the field, undertake mandatory EGBC field reviews, and support equipment installation, calibration, and commissioning.

Condition Assessment & Reporting: Conduct site investigations, analyze facility equipment performance, and author detailed condition assessment reports with recommendations for deficiency remediation.

Procurement & Technical Reviews: Specify and procure electrical materials, panel assemblies, and secondary equipment while conducting peer reviews of designs prepared by internal or external teams.
Testing & Knowledge Transfer: Prepare detailed commissioning test plans, outline summary requirements, and deliver training to peers and station operations personnel on modified or new systems.

Qualifications

(8) years of progressive engineering experience, with a heavy focus on Protection & Control (P&C) system design in utility generating stations or substations.

Proven experience designing protection and control systems for high-voltage systems (12 kV to 500 kV) and generating station auxiliary systems.

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and willingness to travel to various generation sites across the province as needed.

Nice-to-Haves:

Direct electric utility engineering experience within North American power generation or transmission systems.

Familiarity with drawing systems, project management procedures, and station operational workflows.

Education and Certifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (B.Sc. / B.Eng.) Specialized coursework or concentration in Power Engineering or Electrical Power Systems is strongly preferred due to the focus on 12 kV to 500 kV generation and station protection systems.

P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
Additional Information
- Ability to work on a hybrid schedule out of the assigned office location.

Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.

Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
