About the Job
Responsibilities
- Visually inspect raw materials before beginning production for quality.
- Study blueprints and/or drawings of products to be constructed and plan the sequence of cutting or shaping operations to be performed.
- Mark, outline dimensions of parts on paper or wood stock, according to blueprint or drawing specifications.
- Use various hand tools to fabricate and repair high grade wooden cabinets and kitchen hoods.
- Setup and operate woodworking machines, such as table saws, jointer, mortiser, tenoner, planer, and shaper to cut and shape parts from wood stock.
- Trim and/or mitre component parts and joints to ensure snug fit, using hand tools, such as planes, chisels, or wood files.
- Bore holes for insertion of screws or dowels by hand or using boring machine & drive nails or other fasteners into joints at designated places to reinforce joints
- Glue, fit, and clamp parts and sub-assemblies together.
- Sand and scrape rough surfaces and joints of articles to prepare articles for finishing.
- Install hardware, such as hinges, catches, and drawer pulls as required
- Visually inspect completed work for quality and accuracy before releasing it to next production stage.
Requirements
- Bend and lift up to 50+ pounds of parts depending on customer orders
- Work independently after training to perform assigned tasks
- Multiple schedules and hours available
- A certificate in woodworking from a recognized community college or relevant cabinet maker experience is an asset
- Minimum 2 years in a wood manufacturing industry is an asset
