Job Summary
Global Electric Ltd. is currently seeking a dependable and hardworking Fiber Optic Cable Installer to join our team. This position primarily involves working as part of a crew operating fiber cable blowing equipment to install fiber optic cable over long distances through underground duct systems.
Work is performed across multiple job sites throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan, with the majority of projects requiring out-of-town travel. Crews operate on a typical shift schedule of 10 days on / 4 days off, with daily shifts ranging from 10 to 14 hours.
The ideal candidate will have experience in cable pulling, lashing and blowing. Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions, and be capable of performing physically demanding work as part of a team.
Overtime is regularly available and paid, along with Living Out Allowance (LOA) for out-of-town work.
Duties
- Operate and assist with fiber optic cable blowing equipment to install cable over long distances through underground duct systems
- Work as part of a crew to complete high-production fiber installations across multiple job sites
- Prepare and inspect ducts prior to cable installation (cleaning, rodding, and proofing as required)
- Load, stage, and handle fiber optic cable reels safely and efficiently
- Monitor cable installation to ensure proper tension, speed, and bend radius are maintained
- Assist with setup and teardown of fiber blowing equipment and support tools
- Identify and troubleshoot installation issues such as blockages or friction within ducts
- Perform work in handholes, vaults, and access points as required
- Complete basic site preparation, restoration, and cleanup
- Follow project plans, crew direction, and daily work schedules
- Adhere to all safety regulations, procedures, and job hazard assessments
- Proven experience in telecommunications or a related field is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of fiber optic networking principles and practices.
- Proficient in computer networking concepts and practices.
- Mechanical knowledge with the ability to use hand tools effectively.
- Experience with Cisco routers is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills to interact with clients and team members effectively.
