Not your average summer job. Real people, real impact, real summer camp magic! We’re looking for a Camp Coordinator to join The YES this summer.
About The YES
The Youth Excellence Society (The YES) delivers leadership summer camps for teens ages 14–18 at our site on Lake Cowichan. Youth from across British Columbia come together to build confidence, connection, and leadership skills through hands-on, community-based experiences.
Our programs focus on self-awareness, communication, cooperation, inclusion, and leadership. At The YES, we create spaces where young people feel supported, challenged, and a strong sense of belonging.
About the Role
The Camp Life Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day flow of camp and helping ensure participants feel safe, supported, and cared for throughout the week.
This is a hands-on, people-focused role where you will be actively involved in the rhythm of camp life. You will work closely with the Camp Manager and Program Directors to support participants, staff, and overall operations.
This role is ideal for someone who is organized, adaptable, and enjoys being a steady, supportive presence in a fast-paced environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting the daily flow and logistics of camp
- Checking in with participants and helping respond to individual needs
- Making phone calls home when needed and supporting communication with families
- Assisting with town trips, errands, and off-site logistics
- Helping staff navigate day-to-day challenges and problem solving
- Being a consistent, calm, and supportive presence for both staff and participants
- Jumping in where needed to keep camp running smoothly
A Day in the Life
No two days at camp look the same, but you can expect to be right in the middle of it all.
You might start your day checking in with staff and getting a sense of what’s needed. From there, you’re moving around camp, connecting with participants, helping solve small challenges, and making sure things are running smoothly. All the while being supported by a senior Camp Manager or Program Director.
At different points in the day, you might be supporting a participant who needs extra care, making a phone call home, or heading into town for supplies. You’re someone people can turn to, whether it’s a camper needing support or a staff member needing a second perspective.
Some moments are calm and relational, others are fast-paced and require quick thinking. Throughout it all, you bring a steady, grounded presence that helps others feel supported and confident.
Who This Role is For
This role is a great fit for someone who:
- Has experience working with youth in camps, schools, or community settings
- Is calm, reliable, and adaptable in dynamic environments
- Communicates clearly and confidently with both youth and adults
- Enjoys problem solving and being helpful behind the scenes
- Works well as part of a team and takes initiative when needed
We especially encourage applications from:
- Former YES participants or staff
- Education students or aspiring teachers
- Youth workers or support workers
- Individuals with camp or outdoor program experience
Why This Role Is Worth It
This is an opportunity to:
- Gain hands-on experience supporting real-time program operations
- Build confidence in communication, leadership, and problem solving
- Play a meaningful role in creating a positive and supportive camp experience
- Be part of a strong, values-driven team and community
