Position Summary
As a Pipelayer / Pipe Crew Skilled Labourer, you play a key role in the safe, accurate, and efficient installation of underground infrastructure, including storm, sanitary sewer, and watermain systems.
This is a hands-on role suited for individuals across a range of experience levels. Depending on your experience, you may take a lead role in pipe installation and crew support, or work alongside experienced team members to develop your skills and contribute to overall site productivity and quality.
Your day typically begins with preparing for the work ahead — organizing tools and materials, reviewing plans, and setting up the site for success. From there, you will support or lead pipe installation activities, including laying pipe, installing precast structures, and assisting with grade and alignment using pipe lasers and site controls.
You take pride in doing the job right the first time. Whether experienced or developing, you contribute by working safely, supporting your team, and maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
This role is fast-paced, physically demanding, and primarily outdoors. It combines skilled labour, technical precision, and small equipment operation, requiring a proactive mindset and strong teamwork.
Duties & Responsibilities
Depending on your level of experience, responsibilities may include:
- Supporting or leading the installation of sewer and watermain systems to design specifications (PVC, concrete, etc.)
- Installing pipe and precast structures, ensuring proper alignment, grade, and joint integrity
- Assisting with or operating pipe lasers and grade controls in coordination with the Foreman/Supervisor
- Performing benching and parging of manholes and catch basins
- Assisting with backfilling, compaction, and grading activities
- Operating small equipment such as skid steers, excavators, and packers as required
- Identifying site challenges and contributing to practical solutions to maintain production and quality
- Supporting and learning from experienced crew members, or mentoring others if experienced
- Ensuring tools, materials, and site conditions are prepared for efficient daily operations
- Completing required safety documentation, inspections, and daily paperwork
- Maintaining a strong focus on health and safety, ensuring compliance with all company policies and procedures
- Performing physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, and working in trenches
- Other duties as assigned
Desired Skills & Experience
We are open to a range of experience levels. Ideal candidates will bring:
- Experience in construction, civil, or outdoor labour roles is an asset
- Willingness to learn underground servicing and pipe installation
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and positive attitude
- 3+ years of experience in sewer and watermain installation within heavy civil construction
- Strong understanding of underground servicing practices, specifications, and drawings
- Experience working with pipe lasers, grades, and layout
- Ability to support crew productivity and mentor less experienced team members
- Hands-on experience with or willingness to learn small equipment operation (skid steer, excavator, packer, etc.)
- Proactive, solution-oriented mindset
- Strong commitment to safety and safe work practices
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently while taking direction from site leadership
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
- Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs
