Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Quality Assurance Specialist to join our vegetable processing plant team. The QA Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all products meet food safety, quality, regulatory, and customer requirements throughout the production process. This role supports compliance with HACCP, GMP, sanitation standards, and applicable food safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor daily production activities to ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards.
- Conduct routine inspections of raw materials, processing lines, packaging, storage, and finished products.
- Implement and maintain HACCP, GMP, SOP, and sanitation programs.
- Perform quality checks, sampling, and product testing.
- Investigate quality issues, customer complaints, and non-conformance incidents, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with BC Food Premises Regulation/BC Public Health Act/CFIA Regulations and company food safety policies.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, corrective actions, and quality reports.
- Support internal and external food safety audits by customers and the local Health Department.
- Train plant employees on food safety, personal hygiene, sanitation and quality procedures.
- Work closely with the production team to improve product quality, maintain food safety and operational efficiency.
- Monitor pest control and sanitation effectiveness programs.
- Assist in developing and updating quality assurance procedures and documentation.
- Develop and maintain the Preventive Control Plan (PCP) per the Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) import license requirements
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Food Science, Health Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or related fields.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in food manufacturing or vegetable processing preferred.
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, SSOP or other food safety systems is an asset.
- Understanding of food safety regulations and quality management systems is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Work independently with minimum supervision.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- Mandarin proficiency is required to communicate with Mandarin-speaking team members/clients/suppliers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality documentation systems.
Working Conditions
