The Automation Technician plans, develops, and executes the programming of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Operator Interfaces (HMI) to support manufacturing operations. The role ensures the reliability and performance of automated systems, supports production changes and continuous improvement initiatives, and maintains compliance with safety, quality, and company standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Participate in equipment start-up, commissioning, and production ramp-up activities, and provide operational support during process changes and improvements.
Knowledge with the instrumentation process.
· Calibrate, test, and adjust instruments, sensors, and electronic devices used in automated manufacturing systems.
· Provide technical expertise in the design, development, and implementation of small-scale automation and manufacturing projects.
· Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
· Analyze production requirements and manufacturing processes to ensure solutions meet operational, quality, and performance standards.
· Establish work schedules and prioritize activities based on production needs and project timelines.
· Coordinate activities with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and other departments throughout all stages of equipment modifications and process changes.
· Plan and ensure compliance with internal administrative, cost-control, and budgetary procedures related to assigned projects.
· Act as a technical resource for production teams, maintenance staff, and internal stakeholders.
· Establish and follow detailed work schedules based on workload and operational priorities.
· Ensure high quality of work performed and adherence to manufacturing and automation best practices.
· Apply efficient and structured work methods to improve system reliability, safety, and productivity.
· Ensure compliance with plant procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
· Follow established PLC programming models and automation standards used within the facility.
· Update PLC logic, HMI/operating screen programming, and related documentation in accordance with company standards.
· Maintain and update standards within Application Code Manager (ACM) or equivalent automation software systems.
Requirements
· DEC Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering of Automated Systems.
· Any other related training combined with the number of years of experience related to the position will be considered
· 2 years of experience in a similar field
· Experience in the food industry (asset)
· Experience in programming controllers in automatic control
· Good knowledge English and French.
