Senior Accountant
Our client, an innovative Chartered Professional Accounting firm, centrally located in North York, is currently searching a Senior Accountant to join their busy full-service firm. Their clients base includes a wide variety of private corporations, not for profits, partnerships, trusts, and various other structures. The ideal candidate is a strong public accounting professional who can lead files with minimal supervision, review junior work, and act as a key technical resource while continuing to develop toward a future senior or management role.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, execute, and complete audit, review, and compilation engagements with minimal supervision
Prepare and review working papers and financial statements in accordance with ASPE and applicable standards
Review work prepared by Staff Accountants and provide clear, constructive feedback
Identify accounting, audit, and tax issues and escalate or propose solutions as appropriate
Prepare and review corporate and personal tax returns and related schedules
Communicate directly with clients regarding information requests, timelines, and routine technical matters
Manage multiple engagements and deadlines simultaneously
Assist with coaching, mentoring, and supporting junior staff
Ensure engagements are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with professional standards
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- CPA designation completed or in progress (near completion preferred)
- 3–7 years of experience in public accounting
- Strong experience with audit, review, and compilation engagements
- Solid working knowledge of ASPE (IFRS exposure considered an asset)
- Experience preparing and reviewing corporate and personal tax returns
- Proficiency with CaseWare, TaxPrep, and common accounting software
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
