Mikisew Awasis Kisiwatsowin Society (MAKS) is a Delegated First Nations Agency supporting the safety, wellbeing, and cultural connection of Mikisew Cree First Nation children, youth, and families residing on reserve. The organization delivers culturally grounded intervention and family support services rooted in Cree values and traditions. Working alongside families, Elders, and community partners, we focus on strengthening families and keeping children connected to their culture, community, and identity. Through a trauma-informed and holistic approach, the Agency promotes healing, resilience, and healthier futures for Mikisew Cree First Nation children and families.

Who You Are
The Summer Student Front Desk Assistant provides administrative and customer service support to staff, clients, and visitors. This role serves as the first point of contact for the office, assisting with reception duties, scheduling, data entry, and general office administration while maintaining a professional and welcoming environment.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist families, visitors, and children with friendly and professional demeanor.
- Answer and direct phone calls, respond to inquiries, and provide information about services.
- Schedule and confirm appointments for families and staff.
- Maintain and manage the front desk area to ensure a welcoming environment.
- Manage office correspondence, including emails, faxes, and mail.
- Assist in preparing materials and documents for staff meetings, appointments, and services.
- Keep the front desk area organized, clean, and secure at all times.
- Assist with office supply inventory and order materials as needed.
- Support office staff with administrative tasks and special projects.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the agencies objectives.
Education and Experience:
- Preference will be given to students who are graduating from high school this year (June 2026) or currently enrolled in post-secondary education in the Human Services field.
- 1 year of experience in an administrative role is preferred.
- Working knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively
- Compassionate and empathetic, with a strong understanding of the needs and sensitivities of children and families
- Ability to speak Cree or Dene is an asset.
Requirements:
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.
- Child Intervention Record Check.
- Valid Class 5 Driver License is preferred. Satisfactory 5-year Drivers Abstract.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a desk or filing area.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
- Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
