We're currently looking to expand our mechanical team with a skilled and motivated Second Year Heavy Duty Mechanic.
Position Overview:
As a second Year Mechanic at BDS, you’ll be responsible for assisting in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of our fleet of highway tractors, trailers, pilot trucks, and yard equipment. This is a hands-on role in a busy, well-equipped shop where you will learn from experienced mechanics, develop your skills, and contribute to the safety, reliability, and performance of our operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in performing diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on highway tractors, trailers, and support vehicles
- Support troubleshooting of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, and brake systems
- Help complete CVIPs and maintain accurate service records
- Learn to use diagnostic software and tools (e.g., Cummins Insite, CAT ET, or similar)
- Collaborate with the operations and maintenance team to schedule maintenance and reduce downtime
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Assist with field service calls and roadside repairs when necessary
- Follow all safety standards and company policies
Qualifications:
- Enrollment or completion of second year in a Heavy Duty/Commercial Transport Mechanic program or apprenticeship
- Some hands-on experience with heavy duty trucks, trailers, or yard equipment is an asset
- Willingness to learn electronic diagnostic tools and software
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (Class 1 or 3 is an asset)
- Strong attention to detail, safety-first mindset, and willingness to develop problem-solving skills
- Welding skills are an asset
