Job Summary
The Municipality of Eastern Charlotte has an opening within its Department of Public Works for an Operator/Labourer.
A Labourer/Operator works as part of a team (St. George & Blacks Harbour) and provides a variety of water supply maintenance, construction, snow/ice removal, maintenance and repair services to roads and public property across the larger Eastern Charlotte.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for conducting general maintenance functions
- Operation and maintenance of various equipment
- Maintaining roads in good condition for safe, hazard free driving
- Gravel hauling, loading and spreading
- Road Reconstruction
- Culvert installation and maintenance
- Maintaining municipal drains and storm drains and sewers
- Roadside debris collection
- Equipment repair and maintenance
Maintaining good condition of roads during winter months by sanding and salting of roads, snow plowing and shovelling. May be required to respond to emergency requests for snow removal and other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Water and Wastewater Certification or willingness to obtain.
- Working knowledge of the operation of a variety of trucks, snowplow and construction equipment
- 2 to 4 years’ experience in roads maintenance preferred
- 2 to 4 years’ experience in snow plowing preferred
- A valid New Brunswick Driver’s License with an air brake endorsement (Class5e)
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to deal with the public and respond to inquiries in a tactful and courteous manner
- Basic knowledge of computers/technology
- Working knowledge of all Occupational Health and Safety and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System regulations
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
EQUIPMENT, MACHINES AND TOOLS USED:
Plow trucks (tandem, single axle), sander, grader, loader, backhoe, water truck, commercial trimmer, chainsaw, wood chipper, generator, pumps and hand tools.
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $31.79 per hour
