Overview
We are seeking an experienced Shop Foreman / Production Manager to oversee day-to-day fabrication operations, supervise shop personnel, coordinate field installations, and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
This role is the operational leader of the business and serves as the primary point of coordination between the shop, field crews, engineered drawings, and project schedules. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader with strong welding and steel fabrication experience who can organize crews, solve problems, maintain quality standards, and keep projects moving.
The owner will continue to lead estimating, quoting, customer relationships, and business development. The Shop Foreman / Production Manager will be responsible for execution and operational delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Shop Operations & Production
- Manage day-to-day fabrication shop operations
- Coordinate workflow, production scheduling, and manpower allocation
- Review engineered/stamped drawings and ensure accurate fabrication
- Prioritize jobs based on project deadlines and installation schedules
- Monitor productivity, quality, and fabrication timelines
- Ensure proper material handling, staging, and shop organization
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and shop upkeep
- Identify bottlenecks and improve production efficiency
- Lead company safety program
Staff Supervision & Leadership
- Lead, supervise, and mentor welders and fabrication staff
- Assign daily work and monitor crew performance
- Maintain accountability for workmanship and productivity
- Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new employees
- Foster a professional, safety-focused, team-oriented culture
- Manage overtime requirements and labor utilization
Field Installation & Site Coordination
- Coordinate and supervise steel installation and erection activities
- Attend job sites as required to support crews and customers
- Ensure field work aligns with engineered drawings and site conditions
- Coordinate with general contractors, site supers, and project managers
- Assist with problem-solving and field modifications when necessary
- Ensure installations are completed safely and efficiently
Quality Control
- Ensure all fabrication meets drawing specifications and quality standards
- Verify weld quality and dimensional accuracy
- Reduce rework, deficiencies, and installation issues
- Maintain proper documentation and drawing revisions
- Coordinate inspections where required
Safety Responsibilities
- Enforce shop and field safety procedures
- Conduct toolbox meetings and safety checks
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations
- Promote safe use of welding, lifting, and fabrication equipment
- Identify and address hazards proactively
Qualifications
Required Experience
- 7+ years experience in structural steel fabrication and/or erection
- Strong welding and fabrication background
- Experience supervising tradespeople or shop crews
- Ability to read and interpret engineered structural drawings
- Experience coordinating field installations and construction sites
- Strong understanding of shop workflow and production scheduling
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- CWB welding certification
- Experience with structural steel, miscellaneous metals, stairs, railings, and commercial/industrial projects
- Crane, rigging, or equipment experience
- Knowledge of construction sequencing and site coordination
- First Aid and safety certifications
- Experience using fabrication/shop management software
