Job Overview
Reporting to the Hospitality Services Manager, the Housekeeper is responsible for assisting in housekeeping operations to ensure a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents and guests. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and committed to delivering an excellent resident and guest experience.
Duties
- Maintain the cleanliness of all facility areas.
- Dust tables, chairs, desks, cabinets, lamps/light fixtures, wall vents, handrails, ceiling, fans, baseboards, and blinds.
- Check sofas and chairs for debris; vacuum, dust, and spot-clean as needed.
- Vacuum carpets, sweep, buff, and mop floors; spot-clean carpets when required.
- Clean and sanitize bathrooms, refill paper towel, toilet paper, and soap dispensers.
- Clean windows and mirrors.
- Empty garbage containers and dispose of waste safely in common areas.
- Clean the laundry rooms.
- Check for marks on walls and address them accordingly.
- Identify and report potential maintenance issues.
- Demonstrate safe and proper techniques for using chemicals/cleaning solutions and stocking housekeeping carts.
- Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor or designate to support operational needs and organizational priorities.
Qualifications
- Previous housekeeping experience in a residential care facility, hospitality, or healthcare setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, sanitation standards, and proper chemical use.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers, and carpet cleaners.
- Strong time-management skills with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Good communication skills and the ability to interact positively with residents, staff, and visitors.
- Demonstrated ability to follow health and safety protocols.
- Compassionate and respectful approach when working with seniors.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Basic first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain) is an asset.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to hot surfaces, steam, wet floors, heavy lifting, mechanical equipment, andcleaning chemicals.
- Flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to use hands and fingers for cleaning tasks.
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs on a weekly basis.
- Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, and work in a standing position for extended periods
Notes
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a security screening for working in the vulnerable sector.
Hours: This is a casual position with no guaranteed or fixed schedule. Hours will vary based on operational needs and staff availability. Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
