Kiwanis Nursing Home is looking for Casual Resident Attendant!

Kiwanis Nursing Home is a compassionate, resident-centered nursing home dedicated to providing the highest quality of care in a supportive, home-like environment. By joining us, you will be joining approximately 150 other caring and amazing staff members in our 100-bed home in Sussex.
We currently have vacancies for Casual RA (no guaranteed hours).
Some of what you'll be doing:
Resident Care:
Provides assistance to residents in activities of daily living including, but not limited to, bowel care, bathing, dressing, grooming (shaving, oral care, nail care, etc.)
Assists residents at meal times including tray set-ups, feeding and supervision of residents. Verifies individual diet guidelines are followed.
Responds to resident call bells.
Monitors resident’s food, fiber and fluid intake.
Prepares and distributes resident snacks.
Assists residents with prosthetics, hearing aids, eye glasses, mobilization, range of motion and exercises.
Transfers and positions residents using proper body mechanics and equipment such as mechanical lifts and transfer belts.
Transports residents to and from in-house activities, such as meals and pastoral events.
Obtains and records resident weight.
Provides incontinent care, basic catheter and ostomy care.
Collects specimens such as sputum, urine and stools.
Provides post mortem care.
Communicates with residents, team members, health care professionals and/or other departments within the nursing home concerning resident’s needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduation or equivalent.
Successful completion of an additional course in Personal Support Worker or Health Care Aid Courses, or equivalency.
Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills. Uses these skills with residents, their families, visitors and other team members.
Demonstrates the ability to take direction and work on a team.
Physically capable of performing assigned duties.
Flexibility to work all types of shifts (days, evenings, nights) and on a call-in basis;The successful candidate will be required to complete a medical check, vulnerable sector check, and Department of Social Development background check as a condition of employment.
