PERMANENT full-time CUSTODIAL POSITION
Custodian (Permanent Full-Time, approx. 32 hours/week)

Vernon Alliance Church is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian to support the ongoing care and maintenance of our facility. This position plays a key role in ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors through janitorial services and minor maintenance tasks.
Key Qualifications & Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of janitorial standards and cleaning best practices
- Experience performing minor building maintenance and repairs
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required
- Basic computer proficiency
- Experience operating small powered equipment (e.g., lawnmowers, snowblowers) is considered an asset
- Trade-related experience (plumbing, electrical, carpentry) is an asset
- Willingness to train and become responsible for on-site security and emergency response
- Ability to work 6 – 8 hour shifts
Working Relationships
- Work collaboratively as part of the Facilities team
- Report directly to the Facilities Manager and indirectly to the Director of Operations
- Maintain positive working relationships with staff, ministry teams, and volunteers
Position Responsibilities
- Perform routine and scheduled cleaning of church facilities, including offices, washrooms, hallways, and common areas
- Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors using commercial/industrial equipment
- Clean and disinfect washrooms and fixtures
- Empty waste and recycling containers
- Clean windows and other interior surfaces as required
- Restock custodial and facility supplies and transport materials as needed
- Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for events and ministry activities
- Assist with grounds maintenance, including grass cutting and snow removal (shoveling and use of equipment)
- Operate equipment such as floor scrubbers and backpack vacuums
- Conduct routine inspections of building systems (ventilation, heating, cooling) and report concerns
- Identify maintenance needs and report them promptly to the supervisor
- Perform minor maintenance tasks as assigned
- Assist with facility security during scheduled shifts
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to safely perform physical tasks in accordance with WorkSafeBC guidelines, including:
- Standing, walking, bending, and repetitive motion for extended periods
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment (generally up to approximately 23 kg / 50 lbs)
- Using ladders and working at heights where appropriate training and safety measures are in place
- Performing outdoor work in varying weather conditions (e.g., snow removal, groundskeeping)
- Moving furniture, equipment, and supplies as required
Position Details
- Status: Permanent Full-time (approximately 32 hours per week)
- Schedule: day-time, some evenings and weekends
- Compensation: $20 per hour with benefits after 3-months
