Leduc County is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Light Equipment Operator to join our team. Reporting to the Area Foreman, this exciting opportunity performs various labourer, duties and operates light equipment to support the maintenance of municipal roads, right-of-ways, properties, facilities, equipment and other municipal infrastructure year round as well as night driver duties in the winter months. The Light Equipment Operator is a key contributor to the achievement of the department’s operational deliverables.

- Performs various tasks to support the daily operation and maintenance of municipal roads, right-of-ways and facilities.
- Repairs and patches municipal gravel, cold mix, and hot mix surfaced roads.
- Clears roadways and right-of-ways of debris and obstructions.
- Maintains roadway signs, rural address signs and culverts.
- Inspects and maintains municipal shops, yards, parking lots, sidewalks, and other properties as required.
- Supports shop mechanics and equipment maintenance activities.
- Operates light equipment, including but not limited to, mowers, tractors, skid steer loader, air compressor, aerial manlift, compaction equipment, light and medium duty trucks, and any other light equipment used for operational purposes.
- Performs daily maintenance on equipment used for operational purposes.
- Patrols the county’s road network at night to perform routine road condition inspection during severe weather and report the areas that require maintenance.
- Rotational night driver for winter maintenance program.
o Patrols county roads from November to April, identifying and reporting areas that need snow removal and grading services.
- Advises Area Foreman of road and infrastructure issues that require attention.
- Provides traffic accommodation such as flagging and signage required for gravelling, dust control, construction, and maintenance activities.
- Assists in collecting traffic data by undertaking manual traffic counts and by installing and removing portable traffic counters as directed.
- Adheres to guidelines as set out in Leduc County’s policies and administrative directives.
- Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness Program.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain equipment, and general mechanical abilities.
- A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license with trailer towing experience.
- Completion of high school diploma (preferred).
- Familiarity with County operations and knowledge of rural communities.
- A Class 3 license and experience running heavy equipment (i.e. wheel-loader, track or loader backhoe, or grader).

We offer a competitive hourly salary of between $24.68 and $30.86 and a 100% employer-paid comprehensive benefits package.
The opportunity is temporary (2-year term), full-time and is 40 hours per week scheduled Monday to Friday, with some extended hours to meet operational requirements.
