Executive Summary
Do you enjoy working with youth and building meaningful community connections? Are you passionate about education, outreach, and supporting Indigenous-focused programming?
We are looking for energetic, motivated, and community-minded individuals to join our summer team in Thompson, MB. This role offers hands-on experience in youth engagement, outreach, curriculum development, and summer camp facilitation while working alongside community members and a Knowledge Keeper. The successful candidate will help support outreach initiatives, deliver engaging programming, and contribute to creating culturally responsive learning experiences for youth.
Eligibility Requirements
· Be between the ages of 18–30
· Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
· Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills
· Be willing to work in community-focused and youth-centered environments
Position Objectives & Responsibilities (Schedule is subject to change)Week 1: Staff Training & Orientation
· Participate in staff onboarding and orientation
· Receive training on UDL (Universal Design for Learning) lesson delivery
· Learn outreach presentation skills and summer camp promotion strategies
· Gain an overview of outreach approaches and Indigenous-focused curriculum and activities
Weeks 2–4: Community Engagement & Curriculum Development
· Work alongside a Knowledge Keeper
· Participate in community outreach efforts and participant recruitment
· Gain insight into developing stronger Indigenous-focused lessons
· Adapt lesson difficulty and delivery to align with the Thompson demographic
· Continue outreach initiatives and relationship-building within the community
Week 5: Summer Camp with BGC
· Act as Coordinator for summer camp lessons
· Supervise lessons and ensure camp is running smoothly
· Support and guide BGC staff through lesson delivery and activities
Week 6: CT Thompson Office Clean-Up
· Organize and declutter the office space
· Remove unnecessary materials and items
· Assist with maintaining a clean and functional workspace
Our Ideal Candidate Has
· Supervision or Managerial experience
· Experience working with youth or community programming
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills
· Confidence presenting or facilitating activities in group settings
· Interest in Indigenous-focused education and community engagement
· Organizational and time-management skills
· A willingness to learn, collaborate, and contribute positively to a team environment
Assets (Nice to Have)
· Experience with outreach or event facilitation
· Knowledge of Indigenous teachings, perspectives, or land-based learning
· Experience working in summer camps or youth programming
· Post-secondary education (completed or in progress)
Additional Information
· Some physical lifting and movement of supplies will be required
· Training and mentorship will be provided throughout the placement
· Some lifting of items (15 to 20lbs) may be required.
· Satisfactory Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
