The Role As our Field Operations Manager, you will act as the vital bridge between executive leadership and physical site execution. You will be responsible for overseeing the execution, safety, quality, and financial performance of all field operations across multiple job sites. By standardizing construction processes, optimizing resource allocation, and mentoring field leadership, you will ensure that all Theodore Builders projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in strict compliance with safety regulations.
Core Responsibilities
Field Strategy & Resource Optimization
- Multi-Site Oversight: Monitor progress across all active job sites across Canada, ensuring field teams have the resources, manpower, and equipment necessary to hit project milestones.
- Resource Allocation: Strategically deploy labor, Site Superintendents, and company assets across various projects to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
- Subcontractor Management: Oversee macro-level field relationships with major trades and vendors to ensure accountability and resolve high-level scheduling conflicts.
Quality, Safety & Governance
- Safety Leadership: Serve as the ultimate champion for the company’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) programs, ensuring total compliance with provincial regulations and maintaining the company's COR certification.
- Quality Assurance: Establish, enforce, and review weekly company-wide Quality Control (QC) benchmarks to reduce deficiencies and maintain our brand's reputation for excellence.
- Process Standardization: Develop and implement standardized production processes for field operations to ensure consistency from site to site.
Leadership & Talent Development
- People Management: Directly manage a team of 10 to 15 direct reports, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and evaluating General Superintendents and Site Superintendents, working closely with the VP of Operations.
- Mentorship & Support: Provide hands-on leadership to site teams, troubleshooting complex issues, and stepping in for emergency Site Supervisor coverage (including cross-shifts/night shifts) when required.
- Administration: Review and approve timecards for site staff, manage Living Out Allowance (LOA) allocations, and coordinate company travel within budget.
Financial & Project Control
- Budget Accountability: Manage project travel logistics, field expenses, labor allocations, and material transport to protect project margins.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Chair daily meetings with Project Managers and Site Superintendents to align field reality with contractual scopes, budgets, and schedules.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience: 5+ years of experience as a Field Operations Manager, Senior Site Superintendent, or Senior Project Manager in commercial construction, successfully progressing from the tools/trades.
- Leadership: Proven track record of managing and mentoring 10 to 15 direct reports (Superintendents/Field Leaders) across concurrent multi-million-dollar interior improvement projects.
- Safety Expertise: Deep knowledge of construction safety management, COR audit standards, and provincial HSE regulations. A valid NCSO designation is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: High proficiency in reading architectural blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Software Proficiency: Experience using construction management software such as Procore, Autodesk, MS Project, and Google Workspace.
- Operational Mindset: Advanced skills in scheduling, budgeting, time management, logistics, and material transport management.
- Flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel across Canada as needed to support the team.
