Controls / PLC Programmer

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Controls/PLC Programmer to join a growing manufacturing team. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this role is responsible for developing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing PLC programs and control systems for production and facility equipment. The successful candidate will support automation initiatives, maximize equipment uptime, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop, modify, document, and maintain PLC programs and control logic using Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation platforms including Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, and RSLogix 500.
· Design, program, and commission HMI/SCADA interfaces using FactoryTalk View ME/SE or similar platforms.
· Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, instrumentation, and communication networks.
· Configure and maintain industrial networking systems including EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, and ControlNet.
· Support equipment installations, automation projects, FATs, SATs, and commissioning activities.
· Maintain program documentation, change logs, I/O lists, and technical records.
· Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Maintenance teams to improve equipment performance, efficiency, and product quality.
· Program and troubleshoot robotics and automated manufacturing systems as required.
· Support manufacturing system integrations, data collection, and reporting initiatives.
· Participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing projects.
· Provide technical support to contractors, OEM technicians, and internal staff.
· Train maintenance and operations personnel on controls systems and troubleshooting procedures.
· Participate in an on-call support rotation as required.
Qualifications
· Post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
· Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on PLC programming experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
· Strong experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation platforms including:
o Studio 5000
o RSLogix 5000
o RSLogix 500
o FactoryTalk View ME/SE
o RSLinx
· Experience with Allen-Bradley hardware including:
o ControlLogix
o CompactLogix
o MicroLogix
o PanelView HMIs
o PowerFlex Drives
o Point I/O
· Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols such as EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, and ControlNet.
· Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and engineering drawings.
· Knowledge of LOTO procedures, OHSA requirements, and industrial safety standards.
· Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with multiple departments.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Assets
· Experience in foundry, die casting, metal processing, or heavy manufacturing environments.
· Robotics programming and troubleshooting experience.
· Strong electrical or millwright background.
· Experience with manufacturing software systems and Microsoft Office.
Compensation- 60k-80k per annum
Pay: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
