Job Overview
Location: Fraser St. & King Edward, Vancouver
Experienced caregiver / support worker required for full-time position in a great 24/7 Program providing care for a 37-year-old man with epilepsy and physical / developmental disabilities.
The supported individual:
- lives in his own suite in the family home
- is dependent in all areas of daily living and is non-verbal
- enjoys being physically active and out in the community almost every day
- enjoys visiting friends, going to music therapy, participating in community center activities, going for walks in the neighborhood, book reading, playing on his swing.
The successful Candidate will:
- Be an experienced caregiver who lives within 20-30 minutes of work location
- Hold skills / some experience in management or leadership / teaching
- Receive Program-specific training
- Speak, understand, read and write English
- Be available to work any of the 3 Program shifts:
Days (07:00-15:00)
Evenings (15:00-23:00)
Awake Overnights (23:00-07:00)
- Have the opportunity for career advancement, applying for Team Lead Position post Probation
Responsibilities:
- Works on-site and in community supporting the individual
- Develop expertise in use of client’s individualized communication system
- Knowledgeable re: client’s needs, assisting with Team training and oversight
- Provides 1:1 personal care as required (ie: bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility, eating)
- Supports client to be physically active and engaged during home and community activities
- Provides seizure management
- Medication Administration
Qualifications:
- At least 1 year full-time caregiving experience (including personal care) is required
- Some management, leadership and/or teaching experience a great asset
- Experience in health care an asset
- Musical ability an asset
- Swimming / basketball an asset
The employee hired for this position will receive training in seizure and dysphagia management, mobility assistance and support skills to ensure the client has a fulfilling life both at home and in the community.
Compensation:
Starting wage : $25.95 - $30
(wage range negotiable depending on education and experience)
Pay: $25.95-$30.00 per hour
