Welder-Fitter — Structural and Miscellaneous Metals
Advanced Metal Shop Ltd. is a Brampton-based custom metal fabrication shop specializing in structural and miscellaneous metals for major Ontario infrastructure projects. Our work serves the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), municipal water and wastewater treatment plants, recreation centres, schools, and other institutional and commercial projects across the GTA.
We are seeking an experienced Welder-Fitter to join our shop team in Brampton. This is an on-site, shop-based position. This role does not involve pipe welding.
Position Details
Location: 30 Westwyn Court, Brampton, ON L6T 4T5 Employment type: Full-time, permanent Wage: $38.00 per hour Hours: 41.5 hours per week (Monday–Thursday 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM; Friday 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, with 30-minute unpaid lunch) Overtime available when needed Vacancies: 1 Start date: As soon as possible Workplace: On-site only
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Interpret welding process specifications, blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols Operate manual, semi-automatic, and automated welding equipment Perform welding on structural and miscellaneous metal components (railings, stairs, support beams, channels, architectural metals, custom fabrications) Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings, specifications, manuals, and processes Examine completed welds to ensure they meet standards and project specifications Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment Operate brakes, shears, and other metal shaping, straightening, and bending machines Fit, braze, and torch-straighten metal Operate oxygen arc cutting equipment (arc-air, AOC) Determine weldability of materials Operate hoisting and lifting equipment Operate previously set-up welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts and products Maintain and perform minor repairs on welding, brazing, and soldering equipment Utilize hand and power tools
Required Experience and Skills
Minimum 5 years of shop welding experience in structural and miscellaneous metals fabrication required; 8+ years preferred Experience welding to CSA W59 standards Proficiency in: SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), FCAW (flux core), and spool gun welding Experience welding steel, stainless steel, and aluminum alloys Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols Plasma arc cutting experience Ability to pass a weld test Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
Equipment Experience Required
Arc welding machines, gas welding machines Drill presses, shearing machines, brakes and presses Grinding and cutting machines Hand and power tools
Work Environment
Industrial manufacturing setting Dusty, hot, noisy environment with welding fumes/odours Physically demanding: handling heavy loads up to 23 kg (50 lbs), standing for extended periods, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required Custom fabrication shop — every project is built to unique engineered shop drawings
