Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate High School Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging instruction across various subjects, fostering a positive learning environment, and supporting students' academic and personal growth. This role offers an opportunity to work with diverse student populations, including those with special needs or disabilities, and to make a meaningful impact on their educational journey.
Teachers must either have or be able to obtain a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate by August 1, 2026. A relevant 4-year bachelor’s degree, as well as completion of a teaching practicum or equivalent is required. Applicants must adhere to or be familiar with the Shi‘a Islamic faith, understanding its teachings and principles.
We offer competitive wages similar to the pay grid used by Edmonton Public Schools based on years of education and teaching experience (including a 3% increase if the contract is renewed for the 2027 school year).
This is a fixed-term contract starting August 12, 2026m and ending on June 25, 2027.
Duties
- Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards in subjects such as Math, English, Science and Social Studies.
- Deliver engaging classroom instruction utilizing effective teaching methods and educational technology.
- Provide tutoring and additional support to students requiring extra help in specific subjects or skills.
- Assess student progress through assignments, tests, and projects; provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and behavioral reports.
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and administrators to support student success and address individual needs.
- Incorporate classroom management strategies to foster a respectful and productive learning environment.
- Adapt teaching strategies for students with disabilities or special education needs, ensuring inclusive education practices.
- Utilize Microsoft Office tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel for lesson planning and reporting purposes.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with educational best practices and curriculum changes.
Skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively convey concepts to students of varying abilities..
- Proven classroom experience with a track record of successful teaching or tutoring at the high school level.
- Excellent organizational skills for managing lesson plans, grading, and student records efficiently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) along with strong computer skills for integrating technology into lessons.
- Ability to work well with children and adolescents, demonstrating patience and adaptability.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in special education settings is preferred.
- Leadership qualities to motivate students and foster a positive classroom environment.
- Strong writing skills for preparing reports, lesson plans, and communication with parents and staff.
