JOB DESCRIPTION –Housekeeping Manager
Job Overview
The housekeeping manager is responsible for coordinating a team of room attendants and house persons to clean guest rooms regularly, thoroughly and without disturbing guests, to deliver a quality guest experience. The position is a working manager and includes cleaning rooms with team members as required; plus leading the housekeeping team to deliver timely, clean and safe standards.
Responsibilities of the Housekeeping Manager
· Arrive in advance of the housekeeping team and review all special requests, issues, complaints and maintenance issues -in order to prepare the daily assignments for each housekeeping team member.
· Prepare a list of assigned rooms for each Room Attendant, noting special requests, VIPs anticipated late departures and DND rooms that need verification. Welcome the housekeeping team each morning and make them aware of any special requests and anticipated early arrivals. Read out any special guest compliments/reviews.
· Monitor linen inventory, ensuring that there will be sufficient clean laundry for at least two days. Remove any linen that can’t be mended, log it and set aside for donation. Monitor guest amenities inventory -and re-order when below par stock level.
· Orders cleaning supplies and equipment
· Follow-up on any guest rooms that require maintenance or special cleaning following departures and visit/enter any Do Not Disturb Rooms from the day prior.
· Train new employees on the correct cleaning sequence and procedures – work with them to ensure best practices and inspection of each guest room upon completion.
· Review forecasted occupancy and schedule.
· Evaluates room attendants’ productivity and standards of cleanliness.
· Ensures maintenance of all housekeeping equipment

Qualifications for a Housekeeping Manager
- Be certified as a Director of Housekeeping under national standards.
- Intuitively organized in every aspect of the workplace and a great problem solver. Maintains a high work ethic, with a willingness to take initiative and multi-task.
- Calm, courteous and hard-working. Professional appearance and excellent customer service skills. Confident, outgoing, friendly presence.
- Communicates clearly and proactively with team members to ensure productivity, co-operation and a supportive enjoyable department, while managing time and resources to meet the company’s business needs.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to prepare/complete reports as required.
- Understands and is committed to the highest level of cleanliness & sanitation; plus keeping up-to-date on best practices, cleaning methods and environmentally safe products.
- Coaches team members on delivering excellent customer service while working in a clean, safe and orderly manner in a fast-paced environment.
- Possess a great attitude towards teamwork and ‘add value’ to the hotel experience.
- Flexibility to work a variable schedule, including evenings and weekends and holidays.

Duties:
- Oversee and manage the housekeeping operations of a hotel
- Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of all guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house areas
- Develop and implement cleaning procedures and standards to maintain high levels of cleanliness
- Train and supervise housekeeping staff, including scheduling and performance evaluations
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth operations and guest satisfaction
- Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment
- Handle guest requests and complaints in a timely and professional manner
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure adherence to cleanliness standards
- Maintain a safe working environment for staff by enforcing safety policies and procedures
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in housekeeping or hospitality management is required
- Strong knowledge of cleaning procedures, products, and equipment
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
- Attention to detail and a strong focus on quality
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Proficient in computer systems used for housekeeping operations
