About the Program
Vancouver Youth Services is an umbrella which incorporates multiple programs and sites, including the Broadway Youth Resource Centre (BYRC) youth hub and associated programs.
The Broadway Youth Resource Centre (BYRC) is a one-stop centre for youth (ages 13-24) in east Vancouver, offering social, health, education, housing, substance use support, employment, and life skills services. The centre offers a drop-in resource room and other program services by appointment. Many of our Vancouver programs are based out of the centre.
Position Summary
The Youth Worker supports youth to connect to services and community through the hub services model. They will work in a youth centered manner to build relationships, support in identifying goals and strengths of the youth and support in developing robust youth centered programming.
The Youth Worker will provide case management services during opening hours, develop, and run programming, as well as outreach services to connect with community services and participants.
This position is one that requires a strong vison of collaborative youth work to support youth connection to community and a sense of belonging. This position requires some facilitation of the Resource Room space as well as connected drop in program facilitation.
Responsibilities
- Develops and facilitates youth programming within the Resource Room
- Supports youth, partners, and visitors to connect with the right program within or outside of PCRS.
- Conducts outreach with youth to attend appointments and make community connections.
- Works regularly scheduled shifts on the Resource Room floor providing youth with basic needs and relational case management.
- Actively supports and encourages participants in a strength based and participant centered framework.
- Develops partnerships with relevant agencies and programs to support access for youth.
- Provides case management support with youth, one-to-one and sometimes in a community setting.
- Connects with social workers, youth outreach and other supports for youth.
- Supports Resource Room culture and maintain safer spaces for youth, as well as maintaining health and safety.
- Provides harm reduction education and supplies and provide appropriate referrals.
- Assess mental health risk for individuals and provide appropriate interventions and/or referral.
Competencies & Knowledge
- Working knowledge of addictions and mental health, including harm reduction.
- Suicide intervention training.
- Knowledge of local resources is required.

1 year(s): Related work experience with at-risk youth under the age of 24, including case management and program development/facilitation.

Bachelor's Degree or better in Social Work or related field
