Overview:
Whitesell Portrait Art is seeking a talented, energetic Contract Event Photographer to join the team. This is a year-round, on-call contract position. Throughout the year, you will act as a primary photographer or an assistant for various corporate and private events.
During the peak holiday season (November and December), this role takes on a magical twist! You will step into character as a festive "elftographer" for our holiday brand, capturing memories at private and public events, corporate Christmas parties, operating Santa’s Magic Photo Station.

What you’ll do:
- Year-Round Events: Act as the primary photographer or assistant for various events, portraits, and contract assignments.
- Holiday Events (Nov–Dec): Dress in a professional elf costume to operate Santa’s Magic Photo Station alongside Santa.
- Setup & Tech: Arrive early to set up provided studio gear (camera, monolight, computer, printer, and occasionally a background and Santa’s chair).
- Tethered Workflow: Manage automated tethered shooting using a provided computer connected to your phone's data hotspot.
- Client Engagement: Keep energy high, guide and pose groups with children, and ensure guests have a fun, memorable experience.
- Troubleshooting: Maintain a positive attitude and troubleshoot minor technical or equipment adjustments on the fly.
Skills & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of DSLR/Mirrorless photography and 2 years of off-camera flash experience.
- Software: Experience with Evoto editing software is highly preferred and considered a strong asset.
- Tech-Savvy: Strong understanding of manual camera settings, advanced lighting skills balancing strobe with ambient light, and modern computer/tethering tech.
- People Skills: Exceptional ability to work well with both adults and young children.
- Logistics: A dependable, insured vehicle to transport equipment to and from venues.
- Personal Records: Clean driver’s abstract and a current, clear RCMP Criminal/Vulnerable Sector Background Check.
- Data: A decent mobile data plan (200 MB is the maximum used at a single event for tethering).
- Availability: Flexible schedule, with availability for midday, evening, and weekend shifts.
- Transportation: Your own dependable insured vehicle large enough to transport equipment (full size or SUV).
- Personal Records: Clean driver’s abstract. Current clear RCMP Criminal Background Check.
- Availability: Flexible schedule, able to work midday, evenings and weekends
- Holiday Spirit: Must love Christmas and be genuinely excited to dress up as a North Pole elf and perform in character during the holiday season!
Job Details
- Job Type: Contract, Year-Round (with a seasonal peak in November/December)
- Schedule: Pre-scheduled. Includes day, evening, and weekend shifts based on event bookings.
- Work Location: On the road. Most events are in the Edmonton capital region, though occasional travel across Alberta may be required.
