King EPCM is a civil engineering firm serving the Greater Toronto Area. We're looking for a civil engineering student to join our field and lab work on an on-call basis this summer — a hands-on way to see how real civil engineering happens, from the field to the final report.
Deliverables
● Build reliable field support — assisting with survey work, supporting our drilling crews, and recording accurate field data under direction.
● Take pride in getting the lab work right — concrete sample delivery, sieve analysis, and the standard Proctor test.
● Protect the accuracy of the data and records you produce, so the work holds up without rework.
● Respond dependably when dispatch calls, arriving on time, equipped, and ready to work.
● Grow into more complex and higher-profile project work over the term as your skills develop — this role is a genuine on-ramp into the field, not a fixed set of chores.
Expectations
In your first month, you're showing up when called, on time and equipped, with your safety orientation handled — and you can complete a basic field or lab task without someone standing over you.
By your second month, we can call you on short notice and trust you'll be there and know the routine, so our senior technicians stay focused on the work that needs them.
By your third month, you're someone we reach for without thinking twice, and you've genuinely learned how this industry works from the ground up.
Requirements
● Reliable and available on short notice — when we call, you show up ready
● Safety-minded — you follow site and lab safety direction exactly, every time
● Honest about what you do and don't yet know — you ask rather than guess
● Comfortable taking direction and working as part of a crew
● Currently enrolled in a civil engineering or civil engineering technology diploma / degree program
● Valid driver's license and access to your own reliable vehicle (no company vehicle is provided)
● Able to reach field sites and our lab on short notice
● Able to meet the physical demands of field work — lifting and carrying equipment, outdoor conditions, extended standing
● Able to use a hand drill and fit nuts and bolts with a wrench (other equipment will be taught)
● Prior hands-on experience in construction, trades, or with equipment is an asset, not a requirement
Who You'll Work With
You'll be called in and directed by our field dispatch, a civil engineering EIT, and you'll work alongside our senior field technicians on site and in the lab. You'll also see how the Principal Engineer and the wider team turn field data into finished engineering reports.
How to Apply
If this sounds like you, we'd like to hear from you. In your application, please confirm:
● You're currently enrolled in a civil engineering or civil engineering technology program
● You have a valid driver's license and your own reliable vehicle
● You're available for on-call work through the summer term and can reach sites on short notice
● You're comfortable with the physical, outdoor nature of field work
Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
