The Department of Accessibility Services provides academic accommodations to students with a documented temporary, prolonged, or permanent disability and neurodiverse individuals and is seeking an Accessibility Advisor/Adaptive Technologist for a permanent position.
Provide training on, and access to, assistive technology to support learning
Educate and train students, staff, and faculty on adaptive technologies
Advise and support students with documented accommodations on technology supports, both in selecting appropriate technology, learning how to use technology, and how to access and incorporate adaptive technology into their academic career
Provide accessibility advising directly to students and manage a case load of assigned students
Meet with individual students and their families to identify functional limitations and educational needs to develop individualized accommodation plans for students with disabilities and make recommendations for adaptive technology, as needed
Review and interpret psycho-educational and other medical and professional documentation, as related to a successful university experience to identify academic accommodations based on the documented functional limitations and area of study
Assist students in applying for financial support through the Canada Study Grant and other bursaries related to accessibility and adaptive technology
Develop and maintain working relationships with faculty and administrative personnel across campus, serving as a resource for faculty and staff as they work to meet the academic needs of students with disabilities
Help students, faculty, and staff understand the Duty to Accommodate and how it applies in the Post Secondary setting and help operationalize documented accommodations for students in their current educational context
Consult with individual faculty as they implement accommodations and support students with varying needs and collaborate to promote classroom strategies associated with accessibility
Demonstrate an ability to make decisions independently and consult with colleagues and manager, as needed
Maintain confidential case records, relevant statistical data and required reporting information
Perform other responsibilities as required
