Connex Personnel is currently seeking an Electrical/Mechanical Engineer to support the Hydraulic Production Long Term Asset Planning (LTAP) team. The role will contribute to the development and continuous improvement of long-term capital and operating plans for hydro generation assets, support asset management initiatives and capital projects, and provide technical support to ensure the reliable and cost-effective operation of hydraulic production systems. The position works closely with Operations, Asset Management, and Procurement teams to support coordinated and effective program delivery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The position will work within the Hydraulic Production LTAP team to support the development and continuous improvement of long-term asset plans for hydro generation assets. The work will include advancing capital and operating programs, supporting asset management initiatives such as preventive maintenance optimization, and contributing to the development and execution of capital projects. Responsibilities will also include developing capital budget estimates, preparing scope documents, providing technical support to Operations and Maintenance, preparing work packages, supporting condition assessments, and assisting with the development of technical specifications, engineering standards, and engineering directives to ensure best practices are followed. The role will require close collaboration with Operations, Asset Management, and Engineering teams to support effective and coordinated program delivery.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Graduation from a recognized university with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Electrical preferred; Mechanical considered with an electrical utility background).
- Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL).
- Minimum of five (5) years of related experience, preferably within a utility or hydroelectric generation environment.
- Experience in asset management, capital planning, and maintenance strategies.
- Experience developing engineering estimates, scope documents, and supporting capital project execution.
- Experience in the development and management of engineering consultants and construction contracts.
- Experience in maintenance tactic implementation and troubleshooting would be considered an asset.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Asset management certifications (e.g., CAMP, MMP) or similar would be considered an asset.
- Willingness to travel regularly within Newfoundland and Labrador (approximately one week per month).
- Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
Location: Head office in St. John’s, NL.
Anticipated Start Date: June 15, 2026
Anticipated End Date: June 11, 2027 **with the possibility of extension
