MTM has a 30-year contract for the provision of maintenance and rehabilitation services for the rail vehicles, track, structures, signals, communications, traction power system, buildings and landscaping elements of Finch West LRT.
Job Description
Mosaic Transit Maintenance Group (MTMGP) is currently looking for Yard Maintenance Specialists who will play a significant role as members of our Mosaic Transit Maintenance Group (MTMGP) operations team, responsible for the control of rail operations within the Finch West Maintenance and Storage Facility (FWMSF) on the Finch West Light Rail Transit (FWLRT) line in Toronto, Ontario.
The Yard Maintenance Specialist plans, coordinates and moves Light Rail Vehicles (LRV) into, out of, and within the yard in accordance with established policies, procedures and practices. You will be required to coordinate with vehicle maintenance personnel to position and move trains through various onsite maintenance facilities. You will coordinate with infrastructure maintenance personnel to facilitate maintenance activities and maintenance vehicle movement during the yard maintenance window. You will also be the main point of contact for the Finch West Light Rail Transit (FWLRT) help desk to monitor, record and assign any maintenance requests as received on a variety of rail transit operations and maintenance issues. Also be responsible for the monitoring of rail and security systems through a Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system responding appropriately in accordance with established procedures with various maintenance personnel to meet daily revenue service demands.

What you’ll do:
- Plan, coordinate, move and monitor LRV trains, within the FWMSF, utilizing a CBTC transit signaling system panel to meet scheduled transit service and maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate the yard/mainline interface with TTC’s Transit Control personal for a smooth hand-off of trains and maintenance vehicles into and out of service according to schedule.
- Maintain an organized and staged yard, allowing for clear and unimpeded movement of service ready trains and trains requiring maintenance.
- Coordinate with vehicle maintenance personnel to position and move trains through various maintenance facilities.
- Coordinate yard operations with infrastructure personnel during the yard maintenance windows and facilitate work protection areas.
- Verify information, document calls, generate Work Orders for maintenance repair work and close out Work Orders, as required.
- Respond to emergency situations to mitigate service disruptions and maintain established service levels and standards, and handling all emergency and routine situations in an efficient, effective and professional manner.
- Monitor and respond to SCADA and other system alarms that are of the responsibility of the Yard Control Centre.
- Conduct security activities including remote monitoring and surveillance of the FWMSF facilities and monitor industrial access control points.
- Monitor, update and respond to active Service Requests commensurate with the appropriate KPM’s and ensure response and rectification times are met and issues are fully resolved.
- Conduct ongoing qualitative and qualitative analysis with senior staff to review metrics, KPI’s, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Input, query and maintain records of all Help Desk incidents in Zedas (CMMS)
- Dispatch appropriate personnel to investigate and effect repairs, as required.
- Escalates incidents as required to Manager staff.
- Assist with the development of policies, procedures, protocols, SOP’s, user instructions, training materials and decision-support tools.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bring:
- Completion of a post-secondary school education, such as a Community College Diploma or University degree in a technical related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent, such as engineering, mathematics, information technology.
- Knowledge of the rail transit industry.
- Familiarity with the vehicle and infrastructure systems that comprise a light rail transit system.
- Thorough knowledge of transit operations, including rail yard operations, train control system operation and interfaces, emergency operating rules, procedures and regulations, power isolation procedures, and service adjustments to manage the LRV Yard Control.
- Incumbent must have an ability to perform within a “control centre” environment, including potential emergency situations.
- Proven experience working in a high pressure “Control Centre” environment and dealing with emergencies.
- Working knowledge of computerized databases and the MS Office Suite, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Detailed knowledge and previous work experience with maintenance management, a maintenance management system, Help Desk or Control Centre environment is an asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language.
- Excellent customer service skills with both internal staff and external clients.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong decision-making, effective problem solving and risk management skills.
- Must have effective interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively as part a team.
- Must be able to multi-task.
- Computer literacy with demonstrated knowledge and ability to use computers and related technology.
- Must have a valid non-probationary Class “G” Province of Ontario Driver’s License in good standing.
- Must be able to attain and maintain LRT Yard Operator qualification.
- Must be willing to work variable shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Please note, we are located at 50 York Gate Blvd, Toronto, Ontario, and cannot accommodate working remotely. The successful candidate will be expected to physically work at this location as outlined above.
Safety Responsibilities:
- Adherence to all T&C Rail Operating Rules and procedures, including impairment and hours of work policies.
- Carry out activities in a method that will not cause harm to themselves or other staff.
- Ensure vehicles and/or equipment are safely stored and secured.
- Experience with an incident tracking system.

Pay: $31.00-$36.00 per hour
