Job Type: Full-time Pay: $41.19/hour + Benefits & Pension
Schedule: 48+ hours/week | Day shift | Monday–Friday with occasional weekends
We are seeking experienced and reliable Horizontal/Directional Drillers (HDD) to support the installation of fibre optic telecommunications infrastructure throughout Bruce County and surrounding Southwestern Ontario. This is a union position offering competitive wages, benefits, pension, and long-term career stability.
Ideal candidates will have experience operating horizontal/directional drilling equipment in construction or utilities environments. An AZ, DZ, or ARZ licence is considered a strong asset. Candidates should take pride in quality workmanship, work safely and efficiently, and be comfortable working outdoors in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in utilities installation is considered an asset.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate horizontal/directional drilling equipment to install underground conduit and telecommunications infrastructure
- Read and interpret utility locates prior to excavation
- Plan and execute bore paths while protecting existing underground infrastructure
- Assist with conduit installation and utility connections as required
- Safely excavate, install, and connect underground telecommunications infrastructure
- Operate safely within traffic control setups and established work zones
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, quality control, and site safety
- Keep worksites clean, organized, and safe for crew members and the public
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members
- Track completed work and materials used throughout the project
- Assist with site restoration and cleanup as required
Qualifications
- Experience operating horizontal directional drilling equipment required
- Valid G driver’s licence with clean driver’s abstract required
- Reliable transportation required
- AZ/DZ/ARZ licence considered a strong asset
- Experience operating heavy equipment considered an asset, including: excavators, backhoes, dozers, & tile ploughs
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently and as part of a crew
- Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs., crouching, bending, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions
