Job Summary:
The First Cook plays a key role in the camp kitchen, ensuring high-quality meal preparation and smooth kitchen operations. This position is responsible for preparing meals, maintaining food safety standards, and assisting in leading the kitchen team. The ideal candidate is experienced in food service, organized, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meal Preparation: Prepare and cook meals according to camp menus, ensuring food is fresh, well-balanced, and meets dietary requirements.
- Food Safety & Sanitation: Follow all food safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized kitchen. Ensure proper food handling, storage, and temperature control.
- Kitchen Leadership: Assist in overseeing kitchen staff, providing direction, and ensuring efficient meal service.
- Menu Execution: Work closely with the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager to follow and execute meal plans.
- Inventory & Supplies: Monitor food inventory, assist with ordering supplies, and minimize waste.
- Training & Support: Help train and mentor junior kitchen staff and utility workers.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Adapt to changing needs and assist in other kitchen-related tasks as required.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous experience as a cook in a high-volume kitchen, cafeteria, or camp setting.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation procedures (Food Handler Certification preferred).
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to changing meal requirements.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to lift heavy boxes and stand for long periods.
- Passion for cooking and providing nutritious meals in a camp environment.
