We are a consulting firm specializing in IT training, software development, and the implementation of digital solutions to enhance business productivity. Our focus is on helping medium and large enterprises optimize their technology strategies through innovative software solutions and effective user experience design. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant proficient in Sage (Canadian Version) and Profit & Loss (P&L) management to join our finance team. This role is critical to ensuring accurate financial reporting, tax compliance, and supporting our business’s operational growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle accounting operations, including General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), bank reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end/year-end closing processes in compliance with Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and Ontario regulatory requirements.
- Proficiently use Sage Business Cloud/Sage 50 (Canadian Edition) to perform daily bookkeeping tasks, generate financial reports (including custom P&L statements), automate GST/HST calculations, manage fixed asset depreciation, and prepare documentation for CRA filings.
- Independently prepare, review, and analyze monthly/quarterly/annual Profit & Loss (P&L) statements, ensuring accurate classification of revenues, costs, and expenses, and providing insights on profit margins, cost control, and budget variances to support management decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) regulations, including GST/HST remittances, T2 corporate income tax filings, T4/T5 payroll reporting, and maintaining financial records for a minimum of 6 years as required by Ontario law.
- Perform account reconciliations (bank, credit card, vendor/customer accounts) to resolve discrepancies, ensure data accuracy, and maintain strong internal controls over financial transactions.
- Assist with external audits by preparing audit schedules, providing Sage account details, P&L supporting documents, and responding to auditor inquiries to ensure a smooth audit process.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support budgeting and forecasting activities, analyze financial data to identify trends, and recommend process improvements to enhance accounting efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage payroll-related accounting tasks (if applicable), including CPP/EI deductions, remittances, and reconciliation of payroll accounts in Sage.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records, both electronic and physical, in line with Ontario’s record-keeping requirements for businesses.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: College diploma in Accounting/Finance or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Commerce (preferred). Candidates actively pursuing CPA Ontario designation (CA/CGA/CMA) are highly preferred; CPA certification is an asset.
- Experience: 2–4 years of hands-on accounting experience in Ontario, with proven expertise in Sage Business Cloud/Sage 50 (Canadian Version) and P&L statement preparation/analysis. Experience with Ontario small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) is a strong advantage.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Thorough understanding of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE), CRA tax regulations (GST/HST, corporate income tax), and Ontario provincial financial compliance requirements.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal English communication skills to interact with internal teams, vendors, auditors, and CRA representatives. Ability to explain financial data and P&L insights clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in Sage (Canadian Edition) – GL management, AP/AR processing, GST/HST tracking, financial report generation (P&L, Balance Sheet), and month-end closing procedures.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling) to analyze P&L data, reconcile accounts, and prepare management reports.
- Familiarity with Canadian accounting software and tools relevant to Ontario compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA Ontario certification or active enrollment in the CPA program.
- Experience with year-end financial closing, audit coordination, and tax planning for Ontario businesses.
- Familiarity with payroll processing and related CRA remittances (CPP/EI, income tax).
- Previous experience in [your industry] is an asset.
