Position Summary:
Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada is seeking a creative, organized, and enthusiastic Communications and Social Media Coordinator to support the planning and execution of our communications and marketing activities.
Working closely with the Director of Communications, this role will assist with social media management, content creation, public relations activities, e-newsletters, website updates, media relations, and donor and sponsor communications.
This is a full-time position based in Markham. Starlight Canada currently operates under a hybrid work model, with a combination of in-office and remote work. Please note that workplace arrangements and office attendance requirements are subject to change based on organizational needs.
Communications & Social Media Coordinator Responsibilities:
Support the planning, creation, and delivery of a wide range of marketing, fundraising, and communications initiatives, including:
· Assisting with the planning, writing, scheduling, and publishing of social media content across multiple platforms;
· Monitoring Starlight's social media channels, engaging with the online community, and escalating issues, trends, and media opportunities as needed;
· Assisting in the creation of marketing materials, including e-newsletters, press releases, impact stories, event materials, sponsor and donor recognition pieces, and other communications collateral;
· Assisting with the creation, editing, and coordination of video content for social media, events, campaigns, and donor/sponsor recognition initiatives;
· Building and maintaining media, subscriber, sponsor, donor, and stakeholder contact lists;
· Creating and maintaining targeted media and influencer lists;
· Compiling social media analytics and performance reports;
· Assisting with the development of grant applications, foundation proposals, reports, and supporting materials to help secure funding for Starlight programs and initiatives;
· Supporting donor and sponsor communications, including reports, biographies, recognition materials, and presentations;
· Organizing and archiving photo and video assets;
· Assisting with website updates and blog content;
· Participating in content development, campaign planning, and creative brainstorming sessions;
· Monitoring media coverage and Google Alerts, and assisting with tracking earned media results.
Qualifications:
· Experience using social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, and X;
· Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills;
· Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills;
· Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines;
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
· Experience with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite;
· Basic video editing experience using platforms such as Canva, CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, or similar tools is considered an asset;
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
· French language skills (written and spoken) are considered an asset but are not required;
· Experience with Google Ads is considered an asset;
· Experience supporting fundraising campaigns, donor communications, sponsorship initiatives, or nonprofit organizations is considered an asset.
