We are looking for an experienced Systems Administrator to support the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, networks, virtualization, and other IT infrastructure. This role also oversees backup operations and supports data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.
The Systems Administrator will be responsible for maintaining the company’s technical infrastructure, troubleshooting complex issues, supporting system security, and assisting with infrastructure projects. This role will also serve as the technical escalation point for the IT Support Specialist by providing mentorship, advanced troubleshooting, and knowledge transfer.
The successful candidate will have a strong systems administration background, a structured approach to problem solving, and a strong change control and documentation mindset.
Responsibilities
- Manage, maintain, and support company computer systems, networks, LAN/WAN/VPN, and virtualization environments, including Hyper-V and/or VMware
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot complex outages, and support high availability of the company’s technical infrastructure
- Manage infrastructure supporting business databases, including SQL Server, storage capacity, backups, and uptime availability
- Oversee backup operations, restore testing, disaster recovery, failover procedures, and related data protection processes
- Support network and system security, including patch management, firewall configuration, access controls, secure administration practices, and data integrity
- Serve as the technical escalation point for the IT Support Specialist, providing mentorship, advanced troubleshooting, and knowledge transfer
- Review and validate infrastructure, hardware, and technical requests before they are escalated for budget approval
- Support infrastructure projects and IT roadmap initiatives, including server migrations, cloud integrations, system upgrades, and legacy system modernization
- Maintain technical documentation, including runbooks, diagrams, configurations, change notes, and documented fixes
- Coordinate with vendors on support cases, warranties, renewals, and escalations
Skills
- Strong working knowledge of Windows Server administration, including AD DS, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Microsoft 365, and Entra ID
- Experience maintaining networks, virtualization environments, storage, backups, and disaster recovery processes
- Working knowledge of networking and security fundamentals, including VPNs, VLANs, firewalls, access controls, patch management, least privilege, and secure administration practices
- Experience monitoring system performance, troubleshooting complex issues, completing root cause analysis, and documenting fixes
- Strong change control and documentation habits, including runbooks, diagrams, configurations, rollback plans, and change notes
- Basic PowerShell scripting or automation experience considered an asset
- Strong communication, customer service, mentorship, and escalation support skills
Qualifications
- 3–7+ years’ experience in systems administration, preferably in a Windows Server and enterprise infrastructure environment
- Post-secondary education in IT, Computer Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft, and/or virtualization certifications are preferred, or an equivalent combination of hands-on experience and technical competency
- Backup and disaster recovery experience, including hands-on restore testing
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel between sites, as required
