Spectra Engineering is currently looking for an entry level structural designer/engineer to join a dynamic and talented team of engineers providing integrated and coordinated M/E/S services in engineering. The engineer/designer will work on small to medium projects encompassing both new and existing buildings, including modification, repair, and restoration of existing structures. Our main sectors of service include communications and data centers, commercial and institutional buildings, and transit/recreational facilities.
Only persons with a a Civil/Structural Engineering degree will be considered. Persons with degrees or backgrounds in other engineering disciplines will not be considered for any reason.
Key Responsibilities
This position includes the following general responsibilities:
- Perform general structural engineering calculations, including analysis of roof structures and building systems, design of structural reinforcement for increased loading, evaluation of structures for current design codes, and development of calculation templates for specialized work
- Field work to determine as-built structural details for buildings, audit loads on structures, verify installation of reinforcement design, and perform periodic field reviews of construction
- Prepare detailed structural design drawings using AutoCAD and develop computer models of structural systems using SFRAME
- Review of submittals and shop drawings, work with engineers from other disciplines collaboratively, participate at client and construction progress meeting
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
- Minimum 0 to 3 years experience as an EIT (Engineering Intern Training) and/or related experience
- Good knowledge of structural engineering concepts including structural steel, concrete, masonry, and wood design relating to buildings and other structures
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Bluebeam, SFRAME, and Excel programming are definite assets
- Must be able to communicate effectively with people at all levels including project stakeholders and clients, and prepare detailed engineering reports
- A valid driver’s license for travel to sites in the GTA and Ontario
