Job description:
Job Title: Sr Mortgage Underwriter
Company: Dominion Lending Centres Mortgage Connection
Location: Grande Prairie, AB
Job Type: 5 days a week - Flexible Hours
ABOUT THIS ROLE
We’re looking for an experienced Mortgage Underwriter who is passionate about delivering an exceptional client experience through organization, accuracy, and execution.
This is not a sales role. You will not be expected to prospect for clients or build a book of business. Our mortgage brokers generate the business—you’ll focus on what you do best: taking ownership of mortgage files and ensuring every client receives outstanding service from application to funding.
Every mortgage represents an important milestone in someone’s life. Whether it’s a first home, forever home, investment property, or refinance, you’ll play a critical role in helping clients achieve their goals by ensuring every file is managed with precision, professionalism, and care.
You’ll work closely with our mortgage brokers, lenders, lawyers, appraisers, and clients to keep files moving efficiently while anticipating challenges, solving problems, and delivering a seamless mortgage experience.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Mortgage File Management
· Take ownership of mortgage files from application through funding.
· Review income, credit, assets, liabilities, and supporting documentation with exceptional accuracy.
· Structure mortgage applications to meet lender guidelines while achieving the best possible outcome for the client.
· Ensure every file is complete, organized, and ready for submission.
Client Experience
· Listen carefully to understand each client’s goals and priorities.
· Help create a smooth, stress-free experience through proactive communication and timely follow-up.
· Work collaboratively with Junior Underwriter team and clients to gather required documentation and answer questions throughout the process.
· Deliver a level of service that clients remember and recommend.
Lender & Partner Relationships
· Communicate effectively with lenders, lawyers, appraisers, insurers, and other industry partners.
· Build strong working relationships that help move files efficiently.
· Proactively resolve challenges and remove obstacles before they impact funding timelines.
Organization & Execution
· Confidently manage a high volume of active mortgage files while maintaining exceptional accuracy.
· Prioritize competing deadlines without sacrificing quality.
· Maintain detailed records and ensure all documentation meets lender and regulatory requirements.
· Continuously look for ways to improve processes and create efficiencies.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You’re someone who genuinely enjoys bringing order to complexity. You take pride in being organized, staying ahead of deadlines, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
You don’t simply process mortgage applications—you own them. From the moment a file arrives until the day it funds, you take responsibility for every detail and every next step.
You have an exceptional eye for detail and are naturally thorough. You’re comfortable managing multiple priorities at once and have the ability to keep 20 to 40 active files organized without losing sight of deadlines, client expectations, or lender requirements.
You’re an excellent listener who takes the time to understand what clients are trying to accomplish. Rather than reacting to problems, you think several steps ahead, anticipate challenges, and proactively find solutions that help keep deals moving forward.
Most importantly, you care about doing great work. You believe that exceptional client service starts behind the scenes, and you take pride in knowing your organization, professionalism, and attention to detail make a meaningful difference in every client’s experience.
WHAT YOU BRING

· A proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate challenges before they arise.
· Commitment to providing an outstanding client experience.
Experience & Qualifications
· Minimum of 2 years of experience in the Canadian mortgage or financial services industry.
· Completion of the RECA Mortgage Broker Course.
· Experience working with mortgage documentation, lenders, and industry partners.
· Proficiency with mortgage origination software and Microsoft Office is considered an asset.
