Job Summary
Well established office seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Office Assistant/Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in assisting ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care. This person will perform tasks and technical exams to support the Doctor, including pre-appointment testing, assist with administering medications and in-office procedures. We will consider training the right candidate.
Duties
- Front desk administrative duties such as answering the phones, checking patients in and out, checking faxes.
- Verify the information in the file by interviewing the patient, gathering, and recording medical history, and confirming the purpose of the visit.
- Conduct preliminary eye examinations (anatomical and functional), including visual acuity tests and tonometry.
- Assist in the administration of eye drops and other medications as directed by the ophthalmologist.
- Keep equipment operating by following proper operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, provide preventative maintenance, let Office Manager know if repairs need to be made. Maintain equipment logs for audits.
- Counsel patients by transmitting physician’s orders and providing eye care information to the patient under physician’s direction.
- Collaborate with the ophthalmology team to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care.
- Maintain patient records in compliance with privacy regulations and organizational policies.
- Participate in training required for the proper use of sterilization equipment and adheres to guidelines regarding disinfection and sterilization of instruments
Qualifications
- Require superior examination skills, looking for the small changes and details during exams and testing, plus a high level of attention to detail in your work. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills are crucial for maintaining accurate records.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly to patients.
- Flexible, organized, and excellent time management skills.
- Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced work environment with challenging and often competing priorities.
- Trustworthy with high ethical standards, a deep understanding of confidentiality, coupled with a high level of personal integrity.
- Previous experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or in a similar healthcare role is preferred.
- Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician (e.g., from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology) is an advantage but not mandatory.
