Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Developmental Support Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing care and support to individuals in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and private residences. This role requires a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for those with developmental disabilities, seniors, and individuals with specific health needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) and assist residents with daily living activities (personal hygiene, nutrition, medication, etc.)
- Promote independence, inclusion, and self-determination
- Support communication and self-expression using multiple methods
- Facilitate social, educational, and community participation
- Apply behavioural techniques and crisis interventions collaboratively with team and families
- Accurately document client progress, incidents, and reports
- Maintain clean, safe, and welcoming residential environments
- Transport residents safely as per policy
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree as Developmental Services Worker.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in residential treatment or social services with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, mental illness, or dual diagnosis
- Current CPR Level C / First Aid certification
- Enhanced SMG certification
- Valid G-class driver’s license and insurance
- Acceptable Criminal Background Check / Vulnerable Sector Screening
Skills and Capabilities:
- Strong interpersonal, observational, and crisis management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams and independently with residents
- Commitment to the organization’s vision, mission, and core values
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Basic computer proficiency
Work Conditions:
- Physically and emotionally able to assist residents (lifting up to 50 lbs, kneeling, bending, engaging in physical intervention if necessary)
- Flexible to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
