About the Role
Tl’azt’en Nation is seeking an energetic, reliable, and community minded Recreation Assistant to support recreation, youth, wellness, cultural, and community based programming.
This position assists with planning, setting up, delivering, and cleaning up recreation activities, events, outings, and programs for children, youth, families, and community members. The Recreation Assistant helps create safe, positive, inclusive, and culturally respectful spaces where participants can be active, engaged, and supported.
Key Responsibilities
The Recreation Assistant will:
- Assist with recreation, youth, wellness, cultural, and community activities
- Support program set up, clean up, supplies, equipment, and activity preparation
- Help supervise participants during programs, events, outings, and activities
- Support safe, respectful, and inclusive participation
- Assist with sports, games, arts and crafts, land based activities, cultural programming, and special events
- Help maintain attendance records, permission forms, sign in sheets, and basic program notes
- Support transportation, meal preparation, snacks, supplies, and logistics as required
- Monitor participant safety and report concerns to the supervisor
- Encourage positive behaviour, teamwork, respect, and participation
- Assist with communicating program information to families, staff, and community members
- Help keep recreation spaces, equipment, and supplies clean, organized, and safe
- Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and training as required
- Follow Tl’azt’en Nation policies, safety procedures, and confidentiality expectations
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Experience working with children, youth, families, or community programs
- Experience supporting recreation, sports, camps, youth activities, cultural programs, or community events is considered an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work respectfully with children, youth, Elders, families, staff, and community members
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Reliable attendance and willingness to work as part of a team
- Basic computer skills are considered an asset
- Valid driver’s licence is considered an asset
- First Aid and CPR are considered assets, or willingness to obtain
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Knowledge of Tl’azt’en Nation culture and community, or willingness to learn
