Canada U-Tutoring Learning Institute is a provincially registered non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable, inclusive, and high-quality educational support to children and families. Our summer camp programs are designed to support children’s academic development, creativity, confidence, and social growth in a safe and engaging environment.
We are currently looking for a caring and responsible Summer Camp ECE Assistant / Early Childhood Program Staff to support our summer camp program for young children aged approximately 5–7 years old.
Position Overview
- The Summer Camp ECE Assistant will help supervise and support young children during daily camp activities. The ideal candidate has an Early Childhood Education background or relevant experience working with young children, and is comfortable supporting classroom routines, child safety, behaviour guidance, and hands-on activities.
- This role is suitable for someone who enjoys working with children, is patient and attentive, and can help create a warm, structured, and engaging camp environment.
- Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support children aged approximately 5–7 during daily camp activities
- Assist with classroom routines, transitions, snack/lunch time, indoor and outdoor activities
- Support children’s social, emotional, and behavioural needs in a calm and professional manner
- Help lead or assist with age-appropriate activities such as arts and crafts, games, reading, music, movement, and educational enrichment
- Ensure children’s safety and well-being at all times
- Maintain a clean, organized, and child-friendly learning environment
- Communicate with the camp team regarding children’s needs, incidents, or concerns
- Assist with arrival, dismissal, and daily camp operations as needed
- Follow camp policies, safety procedures, and staff instructions
Qualifications
- ECE background is strongly preferred, such as Early Childhood Education diploma, degree, current ECE studies, or relevant training
- RECE certification is an asset, but not required
- Experience working with children aged 5–7 is strongly preferred
- Previous experience in daycare, preschool, kindergarten, after-school programs, tutoring centres, or summer camps is an asset
- Patient, responsible, caring, and reliable
- Strong classroom management and child supervision skills
- Comfortable supporting young children with different personalities and needs
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Able to work in person in Markham
- Vulnerable Sector Check may be required before starting the position
- This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must be between 15 and 30 years old and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person legally entitled to work in Canada.
Preferred Assets
- First Aid / CPR certification
- Experience planning or leading children’s activities
- Experience with arts and crafts, storytelling, music, movement, STEM, or early literacy activities
- Ability to communicate in English clearly and professionally
- Additional language skills, such as Mandarin, Cantonese, or French, are an asset
Schedule
- Program Dates: June 29, 2026 to August 28, 2026
- Expected Work Days: Monday to Friday
- Typical Hours: Approximately 8:50 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., subject to camp needs and staff scheduling
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00-$25.00 per hour
