Overview
We are seeking a motivated and energetic Summer Camp Cook to join our team at Camp Valaqua. This role is essential in providing nutritious and delicious meals to our campers and staff, ensuring a positive camp experience. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food preparation, food safety, and serving others in a dynamic environment. Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals for campers and staff according to established menus and dietary guidelines
- Serve food in a timely and friendly manner, ensuring proper portioning and presentation
- Assist with food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures to maintain food safety standards
- Support meal planning and preparation, including setting up dining areas and buffet stations
- Follow all health and safety regulations related to food service and kitchen operations
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, and workspaces throughout shifts
- Collaborate with camp staff to accommodate special dietary needs or allergies as required
- Supervise an Assistant Cook and a team of 2-4 volunteers
Qualifications
- Prior experience in serving, food preparation, or cooking within a restaurant or food service environment is preferred
- Successful completion of an approved Food Safety Alberta Course
- Experience in meal preparation and food industry practices is preferred
- Ability to supervise and manage volunteers
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
- Previous kitchen or restaurant experience is highly desirable
- Must be able to work during summer camp hours, beginning with Sunday supper and ending with Friday supper
