Contracts Specialist
Our client is looking for a Specialist, Project Commercial (Contracts Specialist) to join their team. As a Specialist, Project Commercial, you will support delivery of the commercial, contracting, and procurement activities. You will contribute to disciplined execution of Stage-Gate processes, implement contracting strategies, and support interfaces with major contractors and suppliers critical to underground mine development.
Your work will help ensure the project is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with commercial, technical, and schedule requirements.
This position is located in Northern BC and is a site rotation of 2 weeks on/2 weeks off.
Responsibilities:
- Execute Stage‑Gate commercial requirements for studies and execution phases
- Support development and implementation of contracting and procurement strategies aligned with underground mining scopes
- Contribute to commercial frameworks, risk allocation models, and contract structures for major project packages
- Coordinate pre‑award activities including contracting plans, market engagement, evaluations, negotiations, and contract award
- Support post‑award contract administration, including mobilization, performance monitoring, issue resolution, and closeout
- Maintain effective working relationships with contractors and suppliers supporting underground development and infrastructure
- Monitor commercial performance and identify opportunities for improvement and value optimization
- Provide timely commercial documentation and support to project and operations teams to enable efficient execution
Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in engineering, supply chain management, business administration, or related field
- Experience in procurement, contracting, sourcing, or commercial management within mining, major capital projects, or heavy industrial environments
- Experience in administering contract amendments, claims management, and close-out processes to ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled
- Experience supporting complex project scopes; underground mining, UG infrastructure and Material Handling System exposure considered an asset
- Build and maintain strong contractor and supplier relationships - Establish clear expectations for Health & Safety, quality, and delivery performance. Conduct regular performance reviews and implement corrective actions where necessary to ensure service excellence and compliance
- Drive continuous improvement and cost optimization - Monitor market trends and identify opportunities for value creation through strategic negotiations and supplier collaboration. Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or safety, ensuring the project remains on schedule and within budget
- Strong capability in contract formation, negotiation, and administration for construction and services
- Familiarity with various contract types (unit rate, lump sum, cost reimbursable, target price)
- Proficiency in MS Office and systems such as SAP, Ariba, Aconex, or similar tools
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across disciplines
- Analytical thinking, problem solving, and attention to detail
- Ability to work within structured processes and meet deadlines in a dynamic project environment
Pay: $80.00-$125.00 per hour
