Now Hiring – Bakery Store Assistant / Production Assistant
La Bakeri is currently seeking a reliable, mature, and experienced individual to join our team. We are looking for someone seeking long-term, year-round employment who can thrive in a fast-paced bakery environment.
Knowledge of Italian-style cakes and pastries is considered a strong asset.
Position Details
- Permanent position
- Average 25–35 hours per week
- Primarily weekday shifts (Tuesday to Friday) with rotating weekends as required
- Must be available to work all catholic holidays
- Additional hours available during busy periods
- Must be available throughout our busy fall and winter season
- This position is best suited for candidates with flexible, long-term availability
Responsibilities
- Prepare, handle, and package bakery products
- Maintain and refill the pastry showcase with fresh products throughout the day
- Serve customers in-store and provide exceptional customer service
- Take, process, and complete customer orders in person and by phone
- Write personalized messages on cakes using piping techniques
- Assist with bakery production, including rolling cannoli tubes, filling pastries, decorating, scaling ingredients, and other preparation tasks
- Operate cash register and process cash, debit, and credit card transactions
- Open and close the store as required
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations
- Perform dishwashing, garbage removal, and general cleaning duties
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and FIFO procedures at all times
Qualifications
- Previous customer service experience in a bakery, café, restaurant, or food service environment preferred
- Cake piping and writing experience required
- Strong attention to detail and artistic ability
- Ability to multitask and adapt quickly between responsibilities
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious
- Fluent spoken and written English required
- Italian language skills are an asset
- Basic math and cash-handling skills
- Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements
- Constant standing, walking, bending, and reaching
- Frequent precision work and detailed decorating tasks
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in a warm kitchen environment
- Constant communication with customers and team members throughout the workday
